Packing it Away for Party Tricks

Vivi 240x300 Packing it Away for Party TricksAt Vivi’s one year well baby appointment her doctor asked “How’s her appetite? Because it will fluctuate between ‘How is she staying alive on so little food’ to ‘Holy cow where is she putting all of that?’” I assured him she’s on the “ZOMG WHERE IS ALL THE FOOD GOING?” end of the spectrum at the moment and he said “Well, that will change.”

I’m sorry, but this baby has been on 90% solids for going on three weeks now and DUDE. Where does it all go? Last night at dinner the baby ate more than her sister, who is literally twice her size. Cody and I stare at her with amazement that she’s able to pack so much away and then decide in the next bite she’s done, NO MORE! There have been some meals where I’m left flailing, wondering what else I could possibly feed her.

Thankfully babies don’t realize that black beans, rice and corn isn’t exactly breakfast food so pretty much whatever I have on hand is what she gets. After she polished off her Mexican themed breakfast she still demanded more and ended up eating half of a banana, even I feel full after half of a banana. We went about our daily tasks, her chasing me around looking for trouble to get into, me doing laundry and replying to emails when all of a sudden she was grouchy and acting hungry all over again.

I heated up some mother’s day leftovers, wild roasted salmon, yellow potatoes and green beans and SHE ATE IT ALL. She’s napping now, that is going to be one serious nap with that full of a belly. I can only assume that with all the new party tricks she’s learning (standing up! trying to walk! cruising! climbing over everything!) that she needs a little extra energy boost. I don’t remember Addie ever being this voracious except in her toddler years but Vivi is far more busy than Addie ever was (and a way better eater.)

I have no idea where she puts it all as she seems to be thinning out everyday with all of her growing and moving, but I can assure you it all comes out in the end (literally.)
